 의문문  1


  • 일반적으로 의문문은 첫번째 동사를 주어 앞으로 이동해서 만듭니다.
    Subject + Verb   Verb + Subject  
    • Tom will
    • you have
    • The house was
    • will Tom?
    • have you?
    • was the house?
    • Will Tom be here tomorrow?
    • Have you been working hard?
    • When was the house built?
  • 동사가 2개 이상인 경우에는 맨 앞의 첫번째 동사만 주어 앞으로 이동합니다.
    • Is Catherine working today? (not Is working Catherine)


  • 단순현재형의 의문문은 do/does 사용:
    • you live
    • the film begins
    • do you live?
    • does the film begin?
    • Do you live near here?
    • What time does the film begin?
  • 단순과거형의 의문문은 did 사용:
    • you sold
    • the train stopped
    • did you sell?
    • did the train stop?
    • Did you sell your car?
    • Why did the train stop?
  • who/what 등이 주어인 경우 do/does/did 를 사용하지 않습니다.
    who 가 목적어인 경우 who 가 주어인 경우
    Zoe called somebody. Somebody called Zoe.
    Who did Zoe call? Who called Zoe?
  • 다음의 예는 who/what, etc. 이 주어:
    • Who wants something to eat? (not Who does want)
    • What happened to you last night? (not What did happen)
    • How many people came to the meeting? (not did come)
    • Which bus goes downtown? (not does go)


  • Who/What/Which/Where . . . ? 의문문에서 전치사의 위치:
    • Who do you want to speak to
    • What was the weather like yesterday?
    • Which job has Jane applied for?
    • Where are you from?
  • 전치사 + whom 의 형태는 격식을 갖추는 경우에 사용:
    • To whom do you wish to speak?

 § ¹  평서문 – You want to speak to whom.
  의문문 1. To whom do you want to speak?
  의문문 2. Whom do you want to speak to? → Who do you want to speak to?

  D     Isn’t it . . . ? / Didn’t you . . . ?, etc. (negative questions)

  부정 의문문

  • 놀라움을 나타낼 때 부정 의문문 사용:
    • Didn’t you hear the doorbell? I rang it three times.
  • 듣는 사람의 동의를 구할 때 부정 의문문 사용:
    • Haven’t we met somewhere before?”  “Yes, I think we have.”
  • 부정 의문문의 대답으로 yesno:
    • Don’t you want to go to the party?
      - Yes. (= Yes, I want to go.)
      - No. (= No, I don’t want to go.)
  • Why . . . ? 의 부정 의문문 (어순에 주의):
    • Why don’t we go out for a meal tonight? (not Why we don’t go)
    • Why wasn’t Mary at work yesterday? (not Why Mary wasn’t)
