  A

  • The roof of Lisa’s house was damaged in a storm. Yesterday a worker came and repaired it.
    Lisa 집의 지붕이 폭풍으로 망가져서 어제 일하는 사람이 와서 지붕을 고쳤습니다.
    Lisa had the roof repaired yesterday.
    Lisa 가 직접 지붕을 수리한 것이 아니고, 누군가를 시켜서 지붕을 수리했다는 표현입니다.
  • have something done 을 사용해서 본인이 직접한 일이 아니고 누군가를 시켜서 한 일을 표현합니다.
    • Lisa repaired the roof. (= she repaired it herself)
      Lisa had the roof repaired. (= she arranged for somebody else to repair it)
    • “Did you paint your apartment yourself?”  “Yes, I like doing things like that.”
      “Did you have your apartment painted?”  “No, I painted it myself.”

  B

  • 어순에 주의를 기울어야 하는 용법입니다. 목적어(object) 다음에 과거분사(repaired/cut, etc.)가 나오는 have + 목적어 + 과거분사(past participle) 구조입니다.

  C     Get something done

  • get something done” 은 “have something done” 대신 사용할 수 있고, 주로 격식을 차리지 않는 구어체에 사용합니다.
    • When are you going to get the roof repaired? (= have the roof repaired)
    • I think you should get your hair cut really short.

  D

  • have (or get) something done 의 다른 의미:
    • Eric had his license taken away for driving too fast again and again.
      or  Eric got his license taken away for driving . . .
  • 누군가를 시켜서 면허를 가져가게 했다는 의미가 아니라 경찰이 압수한 것을 의미합니다.
    have (or get) something done 으로 사람이나 소유물에 어떤 일이 일어난 것을 표현합니다. 주로 좋지 않은 일을 당했을 때 사용하는 표현입니다.
    • James got his passport stolen. (= his passport was stolen)
    • Have you ever had your flight canceled? (= has your flight ever been canceled?)
