  • 다음의 예를 보겠습니다.
    Ling’s clothes are covered with paint.
    She has been painting the ceiling.
    has been painting : 현재완료진행형
    현재완료진행형은 행동/동작에 중점을 주는 표현입니다. 일이 끝났는지 않았는지는 중요하지 않습니다. 위의 예문에서 행동(painting the ceiling)이 아직 끝나지 않았습니다.
    The ceiling was white. Now it is red.
    She has painted the ceiling.
    has painted : 현재완료형
    현재완료형은 완결된 것에 중점을 두는 표현입니다. 행동/동작이 끝났다는 것이 중요합니다. 행동/동작 자체가 중요한 것이 아니라 행동의 결과(the painted ceiling)가 중요합니다.
  • 현재완료진행형과 현재완료형의 비교:
    • My hands are very dirty. I’ve been fixing the car.
    • The car is OK again now. I’ve fixed it.
    • Joe has been eating too much recently. He should eat less.
    • Somebody has eaten all my candy. The box is empty.
    • It’s nice to see you again. What have you been doing since the last time we saw you?
    • Where’s the book I gave you? What have you done with it?
    • Where have you been? Have you been playing tennis?
    • Have you ever played tennis?

  • 현재완료진행형:
    지금도 계속되는 행동/동작이 얼마나 오래(how long) 일어나고 있는지 표현합니다.
    현재완료형:
    완료된 행동/동작이 얼마나 많이 또는 몇번(how much, how many, how many times) 일어났는지 표현합니다.
    • How long have you been reading that book?
    • How much of that book have you read?
    • Lisa is still writing her report. She’s been writing it all day.
    • Lisa has written 10 pages today.
    • They’ve been playing tennis since 2:00.
    • They’ve played tennis three times this week.
    • I’m studying Spanish, but I haven’t been studying it very long.
    • I’m studying Spanish, but I haven’t learned very much yet.

  C

  • know/like/believe 등과 같이 진행형을 거의 사용하지 않는 동사들은 현재완료진행형에서도 사용하지 않습니다. (Unit 4A 참조)
    • I’ve known about it for a long time. (not I’ve been knowing)
  • 그러나 want/mean 은 현재완료진행형으로 진행형에 사용할 수 있습니다.
    • I’ve been meaning to phone Pat, but I keep forgetting.
